knee support arthritis

The answer to this naturally varies depending on the severity, but in general there are two types of support that provide relief for early symptoms of arthritis of the knee:

KS10 Adjustable Knee Support

Neoprene (a highly insulating material) supports greatly increases circulation while providing a broad range of support and stability for the knee joint. Increased circulation helps alleviate chronic inflammation, while padding can help cushion the soft cartilage of the patella. This general support is best worn for up to 4 hours a day, after which it’s best to let the skin underneath ‘breathe’ a little.

KE91 Compression Knee Sleeves

Elasticated knee sleeves offer less support than straps, but thanks to their lightweight and breathable design, can be worn all day long beneath clothing. The mild compression effectively increases circulation to help alleviate swelling, support the joint, and improved proprioception – the increased awareness one's own body movement, which reduces the risk of overexertion.

That is not to say that a knee support or sleeve alone will be enough to recover knee strength. Knee exercises play a major role in non-operable rehabilitation as they strengthen the muscles to better support joint functionality.

Furthermore, exercising the muscles, particularly the quadriceps, can often provide natural pain-relief from stiffness and overall metabolism is improved to better promote regeneration.

Two exercises to strengthen the quadriceps

Mild: Wall Seat Exercise

Stand with your back against a wall and lower your knees so that they reach a 90-degree angle to your body.
Place your feet so that they are just below your knees. Hold this position for up to a minute if possible.

Mild to Strenuous (depending on weight): Leg Press

With the leg press, you not only train your quadriceps, but also your hamstrings, calves and glutes. Important: This exercise is not intended to extend your legs completely. Otherwise the whole weight will rest on your knees. Make sure your knees are always slightly curved and do not overstretch your knees.
